Wow what a big month it’s been for the Baby Globetrotters blog! We are moving from strength to strength in getting family’s confidentially moving across the world (or maybe it’s just summer and people were going on holidays anyway – either way we’ll take just a little credit for it!)
This month I have attended my first blogging conference in London, BritMums Live – what an amazing, even a little overwhelming event to be surrounded by so many like minded individuals. It’s a pleasure to be part of this network and get the confidence to move the website to its next stage – you will see a few subtle changes over the next couple of months as we have some new sponsors coming on board to assist with keeping the website funded.
On the Globetrotters calendar the next few months – well in fact the next six months we have a non-stop itinerary seeing us touch no less than five continents! We will be in Australia for a month over the peak of the summer, followed by a parents-only trip to Munich and Oktoberfest, a fabulous wedding to look forward to in South Africa in October, another bloggers conference for me in Bangkok then rounding out the year we will be flying to Canada for my brother’s wedding. Wow! that’s just shy of 100 hours in the air still to go this year, and you would have thought we learnt after our last long-haul adventure!!
In travel news you may have seen Skytrax World Airline Awards results have been announced and the crowning glory this year has gone to Qatar Airways. I will continue to update the family-friendly airline reviews throughout the year as these have proven very popular – but I must say after our recent flying experience with Qatar flying to Miami and traveling through Hamad (Doha) International Airport, we are in full agreement with Skytrax on this one.
Goodness, after all that what about Recommendations in June?!
Instagram remains my favourite social media, I won’t lie! As for trying to it narrow down to just 4 Instagram I have really enjoyed this month its been tough – so many of you with fabulous stories to tell in photos, and with northern hemisphere summer road-trip season commencing in the US there’s a lot of travel fodder out there! But the stats don’t lie, so my most liked Instagrammers in June were:
Mumwithwings – Storming out of the blocks with her Instagram debut just 7 weeks ago, Jade Szonyi, an International Flight Attendant with 2 kids of her own has amassed a sensational following of nearly 7000. Her kids are adorable and her advice is spot on and friendly, she makes her pictures into mini blog posts and answers followers travel questions with her extensive experience – can’t wait to see once her blog is up and running.
Takethekids – An American expat family based in Shanghai China, and previously in the Netherlands. This album is full of colourful fun and three cute kiddies just doing their daily thing. I love seeing them explore their new environment and making local friends despite the obvious language barrier, and doesn’t Shanghai make a beautiful back drop?
Bring_the_kids – wow! what an active looking family, Dad is a marathon man and their four kids look to be keenly following in his footsteps (when they’re not in his backpack!) Living in Saudi Arabia makes some brilliant backdrops to their hikes and snorkeling among other activities – great fun!
funflyingfour – and finally in keeping with this months expat travel family theme, meet this New Zealand family of four living in Okinawa, Japan. Another very active family of hikers and explorers with small children, Hannah’s snaps are just beautiful – I can’t wait to see more in our upcoming summer special “Explore My City”
If you are relatively new to blogging then “Blog Linkups” or “Linkys” are a great way to gain a new audience, interact with your fellow bloggers and make some friends. A few of my favourites are:
#expatlifelinky – now held during the third week of the month and hosted by Amanda from Expat Life with a Double Buggy, join up your expat posts on any related topic you would like.
#myexpatfamily – hosted by Chantelle at Seychelles Mama during the second week of the month, this is for all the expats out there with the family in tow on their overseas adventure.
#mondayescapes – a new collaboration introduce this month by Ting from My Travel Monkey and Allane at Packing my Suitcase. If you weren’t inspire to travel before then get your bucket list out its about to get longer! Opened every Monday, alternating between the two hosts you can link up anything to do with your favourite travel memories, holidays, weekend escapes.
The best way to find out about these linkys is the join in! Have an appropriate blog post ready, sign up your link, make sure you put the badge or link back on your post too (so your readers can connect to the linky posts too) and most importantly, make sure you like and comment on at least a handful of blog posts by other participants and the hosts so everyone can get value from it.
Things might get a little quiet here over the summer as I tackle the pleasures of three under six at home in 45 degree heat – but it wont be long until we are off in Australia and I might even sneak in a little tech break! (scandalous for a blogger I know). In the mean time I will be introducing you to some great guest bloggers in our new “Explore My City” series where expat bloggers from around the globe will be introducing us to things you can do with family in their little corner of the world.
Make sure you hit “Keep me updated” to get these stories straight to your inbox.
Oh and last but not least, did you see our new logo? I love seeing the Globetrotters in print – their characters have been captured perfectly by Lisa at Personalised Prints – do come check out her store for some fabulous unique UAE designs – and we have a little something lined up at the end of summer for those who live in the UAE!
